Premises ID

Minimize

This is information regarding the Premises ID system from the Texas Animal Health Commission. We have pulled out and listed below information relating directly to FFA programs. Download a press release and complete list of Q&As at the bottom of this page.

What is Premises Registration?
Premises registration identifies the physical locations where livestock, exotic livestock, domestic fowl, and exotic fowl are held, managed or handled. As an example, premises can include farms or ranches, feedlots, veterinary offices, arenas, livestock show grounds, rendering facilities, and other facilities, as addressed in the TAHC regulations. The actual premises identification number is a randomly generated, individual seven-character alphanumeric code, allocated via the USDA’s computer system. This code is known as the premises identification number, also known as “PIN.”

FFA and 4H students should use the premises identification number (PIN) assigned to the site where the animal is maintained. County extension agents and agricultural science teachers may obtain a premises identification number for their 4H club or FFA chapter. Students may use the 4H club or FFA chapter PIN, if their projects are maintained on a separate site, not otherwise required to be registered.

Premises can be registered online at http://www.tahc.state.tx.us, or by completing a registration form and faxing or mailing it to the TAHC. Many county extension agents, as well as agricultural associations, have registration forms available or can assist in registering online. The TAHC also has staff members who can assist by phone. The TAHC’s headquarters in Austin can be reached toll-free at 1-800-550-8242.

Will Registering Cost Me Money?
The proposed regulations call for premises registration to be free in Texas through June 30, 2006. The registration will be due for a two-year renewal on July 1, 2008, at which time a $10 per year fee will be charged. The fee is to be paid biennially, so at renewal, the registrant would submit $20. If a person registers on or after July 1, 2006, the registration fee of $20 for two years would be required at the time of initial registration. Renewal would be required every 24 months thereafter. At renewal, the seven-character premises identification number (PIN) will not change.

The TAHC website has information, statutes, regulations and valuable links to the USDA’s NAIS page, and species working group reports that are available. Persons who do not have internet access can call the TAHC’s headquarters toll-free at 1-800-550-8242 for assistance. http://www.tahc.state.tx.us.
