The Summers Foundation, which provides a grant to the foundation to support activities related to Day at the Capital and Legislative Lead offers scholarships to students who are engaged in civic activities. The two-year Sumners scholarships at Austin College, Howard Payne University, Schreiner University, and Texas Wesleyan University are available for students beginning their junior year. Preferred majors are in the area of political science, although scholarships have been granted in education, history, journalism, pre-law, and other disciplines.At-large scholarships support qualified students who demonstrate a passion for self-government. In addition to academic excellence, the trustees seek young men and women who are civically engaged and possess a capacity for leadership. Trustees are looking for students that are actively working to further our democracy. A cumulative minimum GPA of 3.5 is required and must be maintained if selected as a Sumners Scholar. Students must be US citizens. Scholarships are for rising juniors with funds to be applied for the junior and senior years of undergraduate work only.
